Foundational ConceptsIn today's world of requisite demands for quick fixes, fads, and
techniques to challenges, it is important to remember that leaders need a strong understanding of the basics of leadership
effectiveness. As author Stephen Covey states in Principle-Centered Leadership, "Without understanding the principles
of a given task, people become incapacitated when the situation changes and different practices are required to be successful."
When we focus on descriptive analysis rather than prescriptive solutions, we miss opportunities to engage others in meaningful
dialogue and growth through action. To help understand the importance of leadership, we need to first understand the foundations
of ethical leadership. This helps us avoid the entrapment of the latest trends or fads to resolve situations or problems that
may or may not be effective. The underpinnings of successful leadership will always be found in the foundational concept that
as leaders, we are here to serve others and transform our communities, businesses, organizations, and perhaps even people
to a higher state of being for success. - Dr. Reed
